Top 10 International Energy News of 2023:preceding section

The world in 2023 is still staggering in the midst of severe tests. Extreme weather is frequent, wildfires are spreading, earthquakes and floods are ravaging the world....... The response to climate change is urgent; the Russia-Ukraine conflict has not yet ended, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has arisen again, triggering fluctuations in the energy market as a result of the geopolitical crisis.

In the midst of these changes, China's energy transformation has achieved remarkable results, making a positive contribution to the world's economic recovery and global green development.

1.U.S.-China Cooperation Leads the Way in Climate Governance

U.S.-China Cooperation Injects New Momentum into Global Climate Action On November 15, the heads of state of China and the United States met and had a frank exchange of views on the relationship between the two countries as well as on major issues of world peace and development; on the same day, the two countries issued the Sunshine Statements on strengthening cooperation to address the climate crisis. A series of pragmatic initiatives conveyed the message of in-depth cooperation between the two sides on climate change and injected more confidence in global climate governance.

From November 30 to December 13, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Dubai, UAE, where 198 parties reached the landmark UAE Consensus on a number of issues, including the first global stocktaking of the Paris Agreement, climate loss and damage financing, and fair and just transition. China and the United States have expanded their cooperation and pooled their efforts on climate change, releasing positive signals to the world.

2.Geopolitical Crisis Continues Energy Markets Uncertainty

The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has arisen again, and the Red Sea crisis is looming. Since the beginning of this year, geopolitical tensions have intensified, the global energy supply and demand pattern has accelerated the reconstruction of how to ensure energy security, which has become the question of the times.

The World Bank pointed out that since this year, geopolitical conflicts have had a limited impact on commodity prices, probably reflecting the improved ability of the global economy to absorb oil price shocks. However, once the geopolitical conflict escalates, the outlook for commodity prices will rapidly turn dark, geopolitical conflict, economic recession, high inflation and high interest rates and other factors to the global oil and gas supply and prices will continue to 2024.

3.Great Power Diplomacy Demonstrates Charm, Energy Cooperation Upgraded

This year, China's great power diplomacy has been in full swing, demonstrating its charm, and promoting international energy cooperation in a multi-dimensional and in-depth manner that is complementary and mutually beneficial. In April, China and France signed a number of new cooperation agreements in the areas of oil and gas, nuclear energy, and wind energy and hydrogen. In May, the first China-Central Asia Summit was held, and China and Central Asian countries continued to build a partnership for energy transformation in "oil and gas + new energy".  in August, China and South Africa continued to deepen cooperation in energy resources, green development and other key areas. in October, the third Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit Forum was successfully held, resulting in 458 outcomes in the same month, the Fifth China-Russia Energy Business Forum was held, and about 20 agreements were signed.

It is worth mentioning that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative. As an important initiative to promote China's opening up to the outside world and a practical platform for building a community of human destiny, the achievements of the initiative over the past 10 years have been widely praised. Over the past 10 years, the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative have been widely praised and its impact has been far-reaching. Over the past 10 years, energy cooperation under the "One Belt, One Road" Initiative has continued to go deeper and deeper and achieved fruitful results, benefiting the people of the countries and regions where it is being built and helping to build a greener and more inclusive energy future.

4.Japan's nuclear-contaminated water discharges into the sea, international community expresses deep concern

From August 24, Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant nuclear contaminated water began to be discharged into the sea, and it is expected that in 2023 about 31,200 tons of nuclear sewage will be discharged. The Japanese plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea for 30 years or even longer poses a huge risk.

Japan will transfer the risk of contamination from the Fukushima nuclear accident to neighboring countries and the surrounding environment, thus bringing secondary harm to the whole world, which is not conducive to the peaceful application of nuclear energy and cannot control the spread of nuclear pollution. Internationally knowledgeable people have pointed out that Japan should not only take seriously the concerns of its own people, but should also face up to the strong concerns of the international community, especially those of its neighbouring countries, and communicate with stakeholders in a responsible and constructive manner, taking seriously their legitimate demands for damage identification and compensation.

5.China plays a pioneering role in the rapid expansion of clean energy

Under the main theme of green and low-carbon, clean energy continues to develop greatly this year. International Energy Agency data show that by the end of this year, the global installed capacity of renewable energy is expected to increase by 107 gigawatts (GW), with a total installed capacity of more than 440 GW, which is the largest increase ever.

At the same time, this year's global energy investment is expected to be about 2.8 trillion U.S. dollars, of which investment in clean energy technology will be more than 1.7 trillion U.S. dollars, more than oil and other fossil fuel investment.

It is worth noting that China, the world's largest installed capacity of wind power for many years, is playing a pioneering role.

To date, China's wind turbines have been exported to 49 countries and regions, wind turbine production accounted for more than 50% of the global market share, the world's top ten wind turbine enterprises in six from China. China's photovoltaic industry in the silicon wafer, cell, module and other major aspects of the more dazzling, occupying more than 80% of the global market share, effectively reflecting the market's recognition of Chinese technology.

Industry forecast, by 2030, the world's energy system will undergo major changes, renewable energy in the global power structure of the share will be close to 50%. Standing at the head of the tide, China is constantly delivering green kinetic energy for the global energy transformation.
