Longyuan Power Completes World-leading Electricity Forecast System

on February 11 2022, China Electricity Council completed the authentication of the research project on the studies and application of new energy power forecast system for new-type power networks, which was undertaken by Zhongneng Technology Development Co., Ltd. of Longyuan Power, a subsidiary of China Energy. The authentication committee comprised of seven senior experts from institutions such as Tsinghua University concluded that the results of the research projects can significantly improve the accuracy of short-term power forecast of new energy stations around China, with remarkable social and economic benefits and reaching the world-leading level.

China pledged to peak its carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, which raised the requirements for the accuracy and reliability of new energy power forecast of the new-type power supply system with new energy as the mainstay. In this context, Longyuan Power proposed to elevate the stability and sensitivity of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) physical monitoring solution of the integrated numerical forecast program and developed a reliable, accurate integrated forecast system comprised of 40 members, increasing the accuracy of weather forecast in new energy stations. Based on accurate meteorological forecast, the system can forecast short-term power with time-series inquiring technology, improving the accuracy of short-term power forecast of new energy stations in different parts of the country. In addition, based on the internal physic relations between real-time wind speed and power generation of wind turbines, Longyuan Power put forward the methodology to effectively judge power limits of wind tribunes. This methodology, combined with usable power algorithms, can greatly reduce the cost of assessing usable electricity in grid scheduling.

So far, the research results have been applied in 215 wind farms of Longyuan Power, covering a total installed capacity of 22,590MW, showing great potential for extensive application.
