Wind power in EU exceeds natural gas for the first time
(Caixa) - Wind power in the European Union has surpassed natural gas for the first time and is capable of meeting all of France's electricity needs, a study showed on Feb. 18th.
EU energy emissions to fall by 19% in 2023. According to the report, wind and solar power generation continued to grow, and their combined generation accounted for a record 27 percent of the EU's total electricity. Of this, wind power accounts for 18% of EU electricity, equivalent to 475 TWh and all of France's electricity needs. For the first time, the share of wind power exceeded that of natural gas. Overall, the share of renewables in EU electricity generation rose to a record 44%.
