Northeast pumped storage power station put into operation for power generation

On January 16th, Unit 6 of the State Grid Xinyuan Liaoning Qingyuan Pumped Storage Power Station, supplied by Shanghai Voith Hydro, successfully passed a 15 day trial operation with excellent indicators, marking the official full operation and power generation of the power station. This will effectively improve the consumption level of renewable energy such as wind power, nuclear power, and photovoltaic power in Liaoning Province, as well as the Northeast and East Inner Mongolia regions, and promote the optimization of energy structure.

The Qingyuan Pumped Storage Power Station, located in Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, is a national key large-scale energy project and the largest pumped storage power station in Northeast China. This power station is the first large-scale hydropower project in China to be fully constructed using the EPC general contracting mode, with a total investment of 10.9 billion yuan and a total installed capacity of 1.8 million kilowatts. It is equipped with six reversible water pump turbine generator sets with a single capacity of 300000 kilowatts. The designed annual power generation capacity is 3 billion kilowatt hours, and the annual pumping capacity is 4 billion kilowatt hours. It is connected to the Northeast power grid through two 500 kV lines.


On December 15, 2023, the first unit of this power station was put into operation for power generation. Over the past year, the units of this power station have been adjusted and started quickly, with a success rate of 100% for both pumping and power generation. It has pumped 1342 times and generated 1356 times, with a pumping time of 4954.18 hours and a power generation time of 4776.88 hours. It has absorbed 1.637 billion kilowatt hours of low valley and new energy electricity, provided 1.246 billion kilowatt hours of emergency and peak shaving electricity for the system, and fully played the important role of pumped storage as a "stabilizer, regulator, and balancer".
