The World's Largest Offshore Converter Station was Successfully Installed in Jiangsu

According to Three Gorges energy, the world's largest offshore converter station completed the millimeter level precise docking with the jacket in the yellow sand ocean area of Rudong, Jiangsu Province at 22:18 on July 18.

The official said that the world's largest and Asia's first offshore converter station so far will provide solid equipment and technical support for China's entry into the field of deep-sea and offshore wind power development.

IT Home has learned that the Three Gorges Rudong flexible DC transmission project offshore converter station weighs 22000 tons, and is currently the world's largest capacity, highest voltage level and largest volume offshore converter station.

According to reports, the plane area of this offshore converter station can reach the size of a standard football field, and it is about 15 stories high. It will be responsible for collecting and exporting the electric energy produced by the Three Gorges Rudong H6 and H10 projects (a total of 800000 kW) and the CGN Rudong H8 project (300000 kW) with a total capacity of 1.1 million KW, which can effectively solve the problem of large capacity and long-distance transmission of offshore wind farms.

After the project is completed and put into operation, the annual on grid power will reach 2.4 billion kwh, which can meet the annual power consumption of about 1 million households. Compared with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, we can save about 740000 tons of standard coal and 1.83 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, and accelerate the realization of target of "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutralization".

(Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutralization: With China already committing to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, the Central Economic Work Conference urged quicker steps to come up with an action plan that enables the peaking of emissions. It called for accelerated efforts to better the industry and energy structures and enable the peaking of coal consumption at an early date while bolstering the development of new energy.)
